Participation of the actuary in the implementation and development of the quantitative aspects of the ORSA process

The magazine “ACTUARIOS” published in their Spring 2013 issue on Solvency II a Dossier authored by Oscar Zornosa, José Andrés Acebo and Romain Schaffer. The purpose of this dossier is to provide a practical point of view, which by using simple but real examples allows to analyse the scope of the tasks of the actuary in the process of quantifying and the added value to be provided.

The selected samples are based on real data though they have been modified to improve the didactic aim of the article and avoid identification of the companies used as a source. The objective of these samples is to clarify the provisions of Solvency II and its interpretations by the authors. Nevertheless they do not constitute a complete theoretical example of the ORSA process.

Throughout this article, the authors expose their point of view in relation to certain quantitative aspects of the ORSA process. Those aspects considered to be more relevant to the role of the actuary are dealt with in more detail.
