Most of insurance companies closed the 31st of December of 2008 amid the great economic crisis. They were profoundly impacted by a series of unfavourable circumstances, like

  • The beginning of a recession for the most important economies
  • Decrease of interest rate
  • Increase of credit risk
  • Loss of liquidity
  • Very volatile market

Due to the uncertainty of financial markets, the expectations of analysts and investors increased in terms of transparency of the information, specially taking into account the intrinsic risk that insurance companies have as financial investors.

Our last publication of Mazars Insight, called “areas of higher subjectivity and interest in the Financial States of the major European insurance companies”, is the result of an analysis carried out by Mazars to 11 of the major European insurance companies.
